HUNGER IS RECESSION PROOF

Volunteering

No Boundaries...
By Pamela Graham Anderson

A helping hand, a hot meal, a friendly face, a warm place to sit down among new friends and eat a home cooked meal. You can find this and much more at the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen.

For years it’s provided a hot meal to those in need at the Second Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Its doors are always open and through the efforts of countless volunteers and community donations, hundreds of meals are served every day of the week. The Soup Kitchen knows no boundaries, no one is turned away. The stories of love and acceptance are abundant as are the friendships made not only with the recipients but with the volunteers who will tell you they receive more than they give.

Just ask the “Monday Moonlighters”, a group of volunteers who for more than 10 years has gathered on Mondays to help feed the hundreds who walk through the doors. Their friendships have gone beyond the walls of the kitchen rewarding each of them with a spirit and joy that is immeasurable.

Whether you are hungry or your hunger to help someone is calling, stop by the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen and find out for yourself why the mission is love.

Pamela Graham Anderson is a volunteer at the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen and serves on the Publicity Committee for the New Building Fund.

Give, and it will be given to you.
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.
For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Luke 6:38

WE NEED YOU!

With only two paid part-time staff members (Director, Lou Landrum and Director's Assistant, Ollie Smith), the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen is dependent on our volunteers...we couldn't do it without them! We have more than 600 dedicated community volunteers.
We also have many schools and groups that volunteer at the SSK on a regular basis. In addition, many local businesses volunteer to help out from time to time.

If you are interested in volunteer opportunities at the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen, please contact Director, Lou Landrum at 864-585-0022 or by e-mail at: loulandrum1@att.net
